Partners in Social Engagement: Collaborating with Parks and Recreation Agencies

During the February 22, 2022 webinar, the National Recreation and Park Association highlighted how parks and recreation agencies are working locally to address social isolation and how the Aging Network can partner with parks and recreation. County of San Diego Health & Human Services Agency, Aging & Independence Services shared how they developed collaborative efforts with their local parks and recreation departments to create opportunities for social engagement for older adults. During the March 17, 2022 webinar USAgainstAlzheimer’s shared insights into the relationship between faith and social isolation, and provided examples of how faith communities help promote social engagement. AgeOptions and Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota then shared how they partner with faith-based groups to provide social engagement opportunities for older adults and caregivers. Bridging The Digital Divide To Increase Social Engagement

During the April 27, 2022 webinar, Older Adults Technology Services from AARP highlighted how its Aging Connected campaign can help the Aging Network connect more consumers to affordable broadband and access social engagement opportunities. The Federal Communications Commission then provided details on the Affordable Connectivity Program and resources for the consumers you serve. The Eastern Oklahoma Development District Area Agency on Aging also shared on how it helped consumers connect to broadband and how organizations can create similar strategies. Serving Hispanic and Latino Older Adults and Caregivers: Creative Approaches for Social Engagement and Connection

The May 31, 2022 webinar focused on social engagement among Hispanic and Latino older adults and caregivers. During the webinar, MHP Salud shared cultural considerations when working with Hispanic and Latino older adults and caregivers and tips, strategies and lessons learned to help organizations create and implement social engagement opportunities. Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, Berks County Area Agency on Aging and the Centro Hispano Daniel Torres then highlighted social engagement programs and services they offer for Hispanic and Latino older adults and caregivers and discussed how other organizations can create and implement similar offerings. Intergenerational Programs Potpourri: Tips And Strategies To Develop Engagement Opportunities Between Generations

The June 21, 2022 webinar focused on intergenerational social engagement programs. Generations United shared on how intergenerational programs provide social engagement that benefits older and younger generations, including current trends and tips for developing local programs. Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens, DOROT and the University of Colorado Anschutz Multidisciplinary Center on Aging then highlighted intergenerational programs offered by their organizations and discuss how other organizations can create and implement similar offerings. Serving People Living with Dementia: Programs and Interventions to Promote Social Engagement

The September 19, 2022 webinar focused on social engagement for people living with dementia. During the webinar, Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center provided a framer on social isolation and loneliness among people living with dementia. Pima Council on Aging and Gateway Geriatric Education Center then highlighted programs and interventions that help people living with dementia and caregivers stay socially engaged. Social Engagement And Mental Health: Successful Programs And Interventions

The November 18, 2022 webinar focused on the intersection of social engagement and mental health. During the webinar, the Illinois Coalition on Mental Health and Aging provided a framer on how remaining socially engaged and connected positively impacts mental health and what organizations interested in developing programs that address social engagement and mental health should know with regard to potential partners and coalition building. Attendees also heard from Rogue Valley Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging and the University of Rochester Medical Center on programs and interventions that promote social engagement and positive mental health outcomes. Social Engagement and Housing: Effective Programs, Activities and Partnerships

The December 15, 2022 webinar focused on creative initiatives and partnerships to address social isolation within senior housing. During the webinar, the American Association of Service Coordinators discussed social isolation within senior housing and how Aging Network organizations can partner with housing communities to promote social engagement. Attendees also heard from Aging Ahead and PEP Housing on programs and activities that promote social connections within senior housing.
