Looking for Inspiration for Your Social Engagement Work? Visit the Innovations Hub!

Older adults from all walks of life come to organizations just like yours for social engagement opportunities every day. Whether the older adult is a widow trying to find a new way to make connections after her husband recently passed away, a disabled veteran who has few opportunities for socializing or a recent retiree seeking friends, they all have one thing in common: their lives can be positively impacted by the social engagement programs in their communities. From arts and crafts to educational classes to virtual conversations, these programs bring older adults together to create new experiences.

engAGED created the Social Engagement Innovations Hub to provide organizations with access to replicable social engagement models. Each of the examples contains all the information you need to recreate them, including a summary of the program, partners involved, outcomes demonstrated, lessons learned and resources needed—as well as contact information to learn more.

New Innovations Added!

engAGED, in collaboration with Commit to Connect, recently added 24 new program summaries to the Innovations Hub. There, you’ll find out how featured organizations are using these creative programs to bring people together and how you can do the same.

  •  A Variety of Organization Leads

The organizations implementing the new examples include Area Agencies on Aging, senior centers, aging services providers and other community-based organizations.

  • Diverse Intervention Types

To increase the social engagement of older adults living in rural, suburban and urban areas, the 24 new programs use a variety of interventions, including intergenerational engagement, lifelong learning, technology, volunteerism, arts and creative expression, and health and wellness.

  • Effective Partnerships

The implementing organizations collaborate with a range of partners on their social engagement programs. These partners include caregiver groups, disability groups/Centers for Independent Living, faith-based organizations, health departments, hospitals, housing providers, libraries, parks and recreation agencies, schools, volunteer groups and more.
